History & Overview

The Ball was founded in 1991 by Tom & Jill Lang, Gerry & Mary Ortbals and Judge Richard Teitelman, as a fun "no speeches, no awards" evening aimed at raising awareness of LSEM within the legal community, while raising vital funds to support the organization. The first Ball was attended by 400 people and $20,000 was raised to benefit LSEM.

In the years since then, this event has grown to be one of the regions premier events, annually attracting almost 700 guests and raising over $100,000 to benefit LSEM. In 2011, the Young Friends of LSEM added their After Party to the line-up of the event, and this has now become a popular annual element.

Each year the event features a black tie dinner, a lively silent auction, music and dancing with local bands and the Young Friends After Party. The "no speeches, no awards" edict still applies, and the emphasis of the evening is to have fun, while supporting a worthy cause!
